Ochs und Junior continues to expand its ready-made line with the release of the Ochs und Junior Ochs Line Mese 1.22, a colorful interpretation of the brand’s simplest offering.
The Release
The Mese 1.22 features a 39mm in grade 5 titanium. The case features a round bezel that drops off immediately to slab sides. The case is 10.4mm tall. Straight lugs jut out from the bottom of the case and the watch comes on a handmade Cordura strap. A knurled pull-out crown is at 3 o’clock and the case features 100m water resistance. New for this model is a red-yellow-blue color scheme. The Mese 1.22 is powered by an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement.
Our Thoughts
Ochs und Junior, long known for its customizable watches with absurdly simple displays, has realized that some people get overwhelmed with too many choices. The result is a rapidly expanding ready-made line they’ve dubbed the Ochs Line. These watches are non-limited editions of the brand’s most popular models, often with bit of color or something that makes them stand out without being too flashy.
The simplicity of all the brand’s watches is the main appeal, and that’s no different here. While the brand claims that its dot display is easier to read, I can’t imagine that’s true; a dot may be clearer, but you still have to do some visual math to determine the date as opposed to just reading a number. In addition, the 39mm case is constructed in a brutalist way that makes it stand prominently despite its modest 104.mm thickness–you’re going to feel every bit of those dimensions. That said, I’m happy to see the brand making more affordable ready-made options that remove the daunting task of customizing a watch and allow fans to just dive right in.
Availability
The Ochs und Junior ochs line mese 1.22 is priced at CHF 3,500 including VAT, CHF 3,230 excluding VAT. It’s available now on the brand’s website.
