New Release: Horage Omnium Gen 2

Independent Swiss brand Horage revisits its first release from 2009 for the updated Horage Omnium Gen 2.

The Release

The Horage Omnium Gen 2 comes in a 40mm 904L stainless steel case, harder than the typical 316L used in watches. It’s just 10.6mm thick with a lug-to-lug of 46.5mm. The 20 mm angular lugs project straight from the case, with a downwards angle as they extend beyond the width of the case. The bezel is flat and sloped at an identical angle, and the sapphire crystal is faceted at the top and bottom, allowing the watch to play with light without affecting legibility. The watches have a pull-out crown and feature 30m of water resistance. The watch is powered by Horage’s in-house K1 movement, which features 22 jewels, beats at 3.5hz, delivers 65 hours of power on a full wind, and runs within chronometer spec.

The Horage Omnium Gen 2 is offered in three dials: Gorge Blue, Swiss Pearl, and Root Beer. The dials feature a sunburst finish with power reserve indicators that match. The serif Arabic numerals are applied and feature adjacent lume pips; the polished, beveled hands are filled with lume. The big date and running seconds functions of the K1 movement are not on display, lending a more formal look to the model. The watch is available on a leather strap with a pin buckle or a multi-link steel bracelet with a butterfly clasp.

Our Thoughts

The faceted crystals on these are awesome. They’re not a common feature on any watch, much less modern watches, but Horage has done its own thing since its inception. As we all await the Supersede, it’s nice to see Horage still paying attention to its other models. Revisiting the Omnium with its faceted crystal and simple layout is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

The watch itself is relatively sedate. It pares down display usually seen with the K1 movement, offering the cleanest dial yet from the brand. Curiously and (for some) unfortunately, the brand that made its own movement and was bold enough to use a faceted crystal wasn’t willing or able to remove the date position from the crown. I’m also happy to see the numerals lumed. For fans of the brand, you may not get the full Horage experience with the Omnium Gen 2, but you certainly get a flavor of it in what is arguably its dressiest model on offer.

Availability

The Horage Omnium Gen 2 is priced at CHF 2,500 on either the strap or the bracelet and is limited to 25 pieces for each dial. It’s available now directly from Horage.
