At this weekend’s Inhorgenta 2022 jewelry and watch fair, Mühle-Glashütte is releasing four new offerings, including a new complication for its Teutonia line.

The Releases

Four watches are presented and of them, one appears to be newer than the others: the Teutonia IV BlueMoon, which features a 39mm case with scroll lugs on a leather strap. It’s novel for the Teutonia line in its inclusion of a large, off-center moonphase. The Teutonia IV Lady is the first two-tone offering for that line, featuring an 18k yellow gold bezel and measuring just 33.5mm across on a suede strap. The Panova Turquoise Blue features a new vibrant dial color for the line, with lumed hands and hour pips and a 40mm case fitted with a NATO style strap. Finally, the 29er Big continues the robust design of the 29er line, with a 42.4mm case and a new silver dial with anthracite rehaut on a canvas strap. All of the new releases run on Sellita SW200 movements except the BlueMoon, which has a SW288; they all feature Mühle-Glashütte’s trademark woodpecker neck regulator.

The Context

Simply put, these are incremental expansions of already existing collections, even the moonphase. The only real context here, then, is that it’s never a bad idea to broaden one’s offerings to appeal to a wider market. These four new options hit on several markets: women, people looking for larger models, smaller models, and dress watches. With the Tuetonia IV Lady, two-tone has always been on trend in smaller ladies watches, but this is s serious brand and a serious watch, so the release has a bit more weight in representing market trends.

Our Thoughts

One thing I like to see is Mühle-Glashütte’s stunning high-polish applied indices on the Teutonia models; the way their facets catch light almost obviates the need for lume. The new BlueMoon has a lovely Lange-like design that gives it a much more expensive look, and the way the arc of the moonphase aperture continues along the arc of the logo at 12 is a nice touch. The color coordination with the red and grey of the 29er Big gives it a unique vibe. These releases are all different and extend their respective lines in logical ways, and while there’s nothing groundbreaking, everything seems to be well executed. I wouldn’t expect anything less from Mühle-Glashütte.
